80 Domain Name Space Levels Update

A zone starts at a domain and extends downward in the tree to the leaf nodes or to the top level of subdomains where other zones start.
Domain name space levels. Every domain name ends in a top level or first level domain label. A top level domain tld is one of the domains at the highest level in the hierarchical domain name system of the internet. On june 13 2012 icann have announced 2000 domain name gtld applications and space is one of these new top level domains.
After the root the next layer in the dns hierarchy is called as tlds top level domains. The following diagram shows the domain name space hierarchy. In domain name system dns inverted tree structure top is called the root.
The top level domain names are installed in the root zone of the name space. It authorizes domain name registrars through which domain names may be registered and reassigned. Therefore the domain name space is partitioned into areas zones for this purpose.
A dns zone is implemented in the configuration system of a domain name server. A domain can further divided in to sub domains. When the domain name system was created in the 1980s the domain name space was divided into two main groups of domains.
This hierarchy has multiple levels from 0 to 127 with a root at the top. They form the dns root zone of the hierarchical domain name system. The top level domains tlds are the highest level of domain names of the internet.
A domain is a subtree of the dns name space. In the above diagram each subtree represents a domain. The root is represented by an empty string.
